There's an old saying. If you don't want someone to join a crowd, you ask them, "If everyone were jumping off of a cliff, would you?" Well, I have. So my answer would be "Yes". True story.

"I Could Care Less"

this entry brought to you by foo fighters, "all my life"

I hate it when people complain about the phrase "I could care less," saying that it should be "I couldn't care less."

"I could care less" is an ironic phrase. Meaning that since I am stating that there is a way I could care less in such a defiant tone, the meaning you should interpret is that in fact, I could not. For example, if I came up to you and said "Hey buddy, nice hair cut," you could interpret from my tone that in fact I think your haircut is not nice. And further, that you are are not my buddy. In fact, you can tell that my words are so far removed from a compliment that I am actually picking a fight, despite the syntax of my sentence being polite.

And listen, I'm a grammar Nazi. I will correct your grammar. I just don't understand how anyone could have a problem with "I could care less" in a language that allows for a concept called "irony". There are languages where sarcasm doesn't exist, but this is not one of them.

Please, by all means, yell at people who used the word literally when they do not mean literally. Yell at people for being grown adults on Facebook who replace the word "to" with the number "2" and are also people not named Prince. But "could care less"?? That's what you're going to be bothered about? In a world where people say the word "PWNED" out loud?
