There's an old saying. If you don't want someone to join a crowd, you ask them, "If everyone were jumping off of a cliff, would you?" Well, I have. So my answer would be "Yes". True story.

The Dilemna Of Fox News in Public

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

this entry brought to you by them crooked vultures, "no one loves me and neither do i"

Whenever I'm in a public place, like, say, a low-end restaurant or a doctor's office, a place where there's a TV on for the customers to watch while they're eating, I'm never sure how to react when the station is on Fox News. On the one hand, I don't want to be that indignant liberal who can't even be in the same room as conservative thoughts, and I don't want to be the guy who can't just play along and deal like normal people.

On the other hand, it's not just that I have a different point of view than Fox News, I'm morally opposed to Fox News, and I find it repugnant and offensive. It would be like walking into a doctor's office and finding that the TV is set to the cock fighting station. So I honestly feel like it's sort of my duty as a rational person to actually say something.

And there's a good chance that the station was set there by a customer earlier and they don't ultimately give a shit what channel it's on. On the other hand, this might be the station they watch, and will be indignant if I ask to change it. After all, the only person who doesn't want to watch Fox Truth must be one of those lie-berals.
