There's an old saying. If you don't want someone to join a crowd, you ask them, "If everyone were jumping off of a cliff, would you?" Well, I have. So my answer would be "Yes". True story.

AMERICANS ALREADY DISAPPOINTED IN OBAMA OVER LACK OF CHANGE

WASHINGTON-- In a Gallup poll published today, nearly 1/3rd of all Americans who voted for the President-Elect, Barack Obama, are disappointed in his performance and the country's general lack of change. One respondent from Michigan commented "All he's done so far is take tours around the White House and name a few cabinet members. It looks like we got caught up yet again in the hype train. Every election season the candidates promise change, and every time we elect a candidate based on these promises of hope, they never deliver. I think I might have learned my lesson this time."

Despite the fact that Barack Obama was elected a mere week and a half ago, will not be officially put in office for another two months, and therefore cannot possibly make any country-wide changes as of yet, many poll respondents say this didn't matter to them. Of the 2,832 respondents that expressed disappointment in the President Elect, 44% said they were "profoundly" disappointed, another 31% said they were disappointed but might be more approving once he actually takes office, while 22% said their faith in humanity had been permanently shattered.

"Did you see all the partying in the streets and the drum circles and all the happiness in the hours after Obama gave his acceptance speech? I thought through sheer force of the human spirit we would have ended both wars by the next day and attained permanent world peace by the end of the week," said a poll respondent in Maine. "It's been 10 days. I don't know if I can ever trust people, let alone another President Elect, ever again."

Another poll respondent voiced concerns that, "although Barack Obama is not yet President, rainbows have not gloriously appeared in the sky permanently during all day time hours," further voicing disappointment that unicorns had not yet been taken off the endangered species list yet. "I tried to have my expectations tempered when I walked into the polling place that November 4th," said another, "but come on, he can't even manage to have hundreds of pounds of gold and precious jewels erupting from my pillows? I know he's not even President yet, but I'm pretty sure he promised gold and precious jewelry would erupt from our pillows the moment the country called the election in his victory."

Still, there were those that, though expressing disappointment, still held out hope. "I can't help but feel a little bit of morning-after clarity," said a respondent in Pennsylvania, "but maybe it's my own fault for having such high expectations. I will definitely give him until February of 2009 to turn me around."
