Life Would Be Better Without Banks

A friend of mine, a little while ago, told me she didn't have a bank account. "Hey, loser. Why don't you join the 21st century and get a bank account like the rest of us?" I mocked. But then I realized, if it weren't for the lack of being able to rent a home or order porn from the internet, I was perfectly happy cashing my check every week, even with the increased chance of being held up.
Back when I was getting checks cashed at the local Check & Go , I don't ever remember looking at the fee they'd take out and saying "No! Goddammit! Why?! Why does this have to happen to me? Argh, I hate you America, and your bullshit capitalism set up to screw me over!" In fact, I'd laugh at the check casher's fee. "5 dollars and 27 cents out of my 800 fat, crisp dollars? Go ahead! It either goes to you or I lose it in the couch! Ha-ha! Your income is based on money I would have just wasted anyway! How do you like that? Your entire livelihood is based on my throw-away money! Ha-ha!"
On the other hand, bank fees do, in fact, make me cry. Many a time I have logged on to check my account the day we got paid to see overdraft fees that I didn't see coming. Maybe it would be a bill I didn't know went through (or a bill I did know went through late) and causing every little tiny piece-of-shit purchase made thereafter to overdraft. That time I ate at Jack in the Box, then decided I wanted a shake after I was finished eating? Yeah, that's now a 50 dollar meal. I used to laugh at check cashing fees, but bank fees, on a regular basis, invoke the damning of capitalistic society, as well as the self hating described above. I mean, seriously, what the fuck is the point in banks other than fucking you over?
