The Most Embarrassing Overdrafted Bank Account Story EVER
this entry brought to you by portishead, "all mine"
My wife called me up from work one day, obviously feeling randy, telling me to sign up for some porn. We'd signed up to a particular site before, a site with good quality stuff that we knew we trusted. Like an idiot, however, I had an even better idea.
There was this site I'd found that would give you a free day's pass to something like 40 sites, for some low, low price of a dollar. I thought that was a deal I definitely wanted to try. Even if the majority of the porn was crap, hey, it was only a dollar.
At the end of the month our bank account was overdrawn. I checked, and the Uhaul bill had gone through late. That happens. The next month we were overdrawn; some Jack in the Box purchase had gone through, so everything else went over. Then after a third month I was seriously pissed off, so instead of looking at just the last few purchases, I looked at the whole month.
Turns out that one day porno pass three months earlier? It was in fact a one day pass. What I didn't know was that I was being signed up for every single site I clicked, and if I didn't cancel every single site I clicked on before the end of the 24 hour period, I would be charged. So, over a period of 3 months, we spent about 400 dollars on porno.
Thing was, when I discovered the problem, my mom was over, and, being mom, wanted to know what was going on. I had to tell her, after several long moments of hesitation, "It was porn, mom! It was porn!" Trust me, if you ever have to admit you went into the hole three months in a row because of recurring porn bills, it just might be the most embrassing thing you could tell her in your adult life.
The worst part? We were on dial-up, so I only downloaded about 16 files.
