So, how was Thanksgiving anyway?
this entry brought to you by the cardigans, "losing a friend"
First of all, yes, it's been since Thanksgiving the day before Thanksgiving that I've updated. Don't ask me why, but there's something about my new work schedule that just does not put me in the mood to write when I get home. Worse, I have much less time to get any writing done at work that I used to do, so when I get home and don't feel like writing anything, I don't really have anything to write anyway. This is frustrating.
I never know what to write during Thanksgiving. Writing about things that I'm thankful for would be nice, not to mention appropriate, but it is difficult to write about being thankful for the same things year after year (keep in mind this page has been around in one form or another since June of 2000). Taking the funny route is always an option, but honestly, when it comes to clever, original gags that are Thanksgiving specific, I'm totally dry of ideas. So I'm stuck every year racking my brain trying to come up with something-- anything-- that reserves the right amount of sentiment that doesn't just reword what I wrote the previous year. And besides, what sort of sentiments could you possibly state about Thanksgiving that don't sound like it either came from a Hallmark card or a shitty sitcom?
But, having said that, in this case, I did actually have something to be thankful for this year. When I first moved to Phoenix back in 2001, it was October, and the following month I was able to have Thanksgiving with Michelle's family. The year after that, however, I was working at Target on the stocking team, which went to work at Midnight the day after Thanksgiving, meaning I'd have to go to bed at 5 o'clock just so I could get 5 and a half hours of sleep. And it was completely unreasonable to ask Michelle to leave her family's Thanksgiving before dinner was even served. So this year, I was thankful I didn't work a life-draining shit job and was actually able to eat food with my family.
