There's an old saying. If you don't want someone to join a crowd, you ask them, "If everyone were jumping off of a cliff, would you?" Well, I have. So my answer would be "Yes". True story.

Those-- Those Cops are Looting That Wal-Mart! The World is Coming to an End!

Tuesday, October 04, 2005

I want you to see this video of cops looting a Wal-Mart in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It's actually really important that you do click it, I feel. If the link doesn't work, please Google "cops looting katrina".

I saw this video the other week, and it was something that I wanted to post on this page, but somehow lost the link. Well, when I decided to try to look for it again, I kept coming across forums of people shocked and appalled that, oh my god, those cops were stealing too! Oh dear lord! The world is coming to an end! The thing is, when I first saw the video, I was appalled-- at the gall this asshole reporter had. Now I'm pissed off that the majority of the people I seem to be seeing in these forums seem to be on the reporter's side. Listen, I don't know if you know this, but when a major metropolitan area floods and kills thousands of people, having things like "clean clothes" and "shoes that don't give you gangrene" isn't exactly easy to come by. Wearing the same clothes day in and day out is likely to give you disease, especially when you're hip deep in the dead. If there weren't a national crisis going on and they weren't at the epicenter of it, I would say watching this shocking video of cops looting was the downfall of society. But I'm sorry, when this is going on, I couldn't give a shit. I say, more power to those cops. I say, fuck the rich white reporter who can afford to clean and dry his fucking clothes and is making tens of thousands a year more than those cops. And I love at the very end how the other reporter in the studio basically questions what the fuck the point was in watching that 1 minute clip of racist, smug bullshit, and if it was really worth the people's time when there are much, much more important things for the city to worry about. The most offensive part of the video is how calm, polite, and well-mannered these "looters" were-- how dare this asshole reporter specifically go to a Wal-Mart with the intention on making a story about the disgrace of these looters, when they weren't even being violent or forceful!
