There's an old saying. If you don't want someone to join a crowd, you ask them, "If everyone were jumping off of a cliff, would you?" Well, I have. So my answer would be "Yes". True story.

this entry brought to you by sleater-kinney, "rollercoaster"

You and the missus have had the worst argument of your relationship. You leave, you say you need fresh air, get your head cleared. So you just drive. And drive. And before you know it, you're past the county line. There's a hick bar out here, a place you've never heard of, and you pull into it. As you walk in, you expect a sea of unwelcome stares, except everyone is so busy being seedy that they don't even notice you. Your eyes sting from the smoke in the air. There's dried blood on the bar. You order a beer, and without saying a word to you the bartender drops one in front of you. There's a band that starts playing redneck rock n' roll. The singer's got a mustache shaped like a Harley's handlebars, and he's shirtless. Tweaker skinny. And he hoots and coos and struts and spits at the audience, singing about making deals with devils and driving to San Bernadino. The drummer is no good but hits the drums like he really means it, kind of like a malfunctioning 60's robot reprogrammed to play an 8 piece drumset. The bar's patrons don't even seem to notice them, but there's something about how he hops up and cocks his head and goes "ooh!" that just feels so right. And their cover of "Stuck in the Middle With You" is great. And you say to yourself, "Now, this is what rock n' roll is about." You make it home half-drunk, slide into your bed and snuggle your sleeping wife, singing their songs in your head, and all is right. A year later you pick up a rock magazine and find out someone in a similar circumstance saw the band and liked them so much he paid for them to record a demo. That band would sound exactly like Eagles of Death Metal, and that demo would sound exactly like Peace, Love, Death Metal.
