There's an old saying. If you don't want someone to join a crowd, you ask them, "If everyone were jumping off of a cliff, would you?" Well, I have. So my answer would be "Yes". True story.

"What More Can I Say? Democracy Doesn't work." Part 2: The Horror

this entry brought to you by ambulance ltd. "yoga means union"

this is a continuation from yesterday's entry. if you haven't read it yet, please read it now.

The Thursday after the election, my body was weak, my will and desire waned, and I just didn't want to be part of anything. And a hispanic lady in her mid fifties, extremely Christian, asked me if I was happy that Bush was reelected. When I didn't answer, she told me that she wasn't just happy, she was ecstatic. I asked her if she was being sarcastic. She looked at me as if my query of sarcasm was itself sarcasm. "No," she said. "I couldn't be happier that we'll have another four years with him."

Did I not live in the same plane of existence as this woman, as with the rest of the fucking country? How the hell does Bush benefit her, or from her ideals of this country? She's an elderly minority, dangerously close to retirement, working at Target. Her arms were bandaged from carpal tunnel syndrome, and it's her Medicare they're taking, her medicine they're not allowing her to buy enough of. It's probably her grandchildren dying over in a country that has lost a hundred thousand people because of Bush. A country that wants us there so little, they're right about to elect another fanatic to replace the old one.

Why?! Why would she be ecstatic to lose her Social Security, her Medicare, a decent fucking job other than Target, her fucking Grandchildren? Why?!

Because he pretends that he says his fucking prayers at night? Never mind that he's publically broken seven of the ten commandments, shit, he says he's a Jesus Boy, so that's good enough for her! He says the word "God" more than that abortion-supporting, fag-loving Kerry, so fuck the entire fucking world, fuck them all! He says he heeds the commands of an maybe-imaginary-maybe-not best friend, and even though anyone who gives a shit about Jesus and everything he stood for would have fucking caught on fire for doing the things he's done, she's ecstatic. The whole world be damned. Sanity be damned. Hope be damned.

What the fuck is wrong with the people of this idiot fucking country?

I know my coworker is not an isolated incident. You, you the person reading this right now, probably know people just like her. Maybe not personally. Maybe your whole family voted for Kerry. But you know the neighbor down the street with the Jesus fish on his SUV. You know he's thinking as much, because he probably said as much to his wife over coffee in that restaurant you had the distinct displeasure of sitting right next to him in. You've seen his barely-literate words in message forums on the Internet, maybe even in your very own guestbook as he sneers and calls you a "tree hugging fag". You don't even have to hear him say it. You can smell it on him.

Those that didn't vote for Bush for their own selfish, indeterminate, supposed "values" voted for him because of fear, and I almost suspect that more of the Bush supporters voted because of the "fear of terror" thing than their fear of God. Liberals get branded as being "pussies" for being anti-war. I say the real pussies are those that let their fear of imaginary boogey men get to them are the real pussies.

Don't get me wrong. Terrorists are real, and they are dangerous. But shit, it was a fucking American that said "We have nothing to fear but fear itself", wasn't it? Hasn't that been the mantra of this country throughout the past sixty fucking years? Throughout the Cuban Missle Crisis, throughout the Cold War, throughout every problem we got through? Isn't it amazing that one of our most prominent standards got completely washed away in the minds of millions upon millions of Americans through the simple art of spin? Give the American people color-coded alerts, tell them there's gonna be another attack before the elections (which there wasn't), go to war with an innocent country and tell 'em terror is why, and shit, they'll forget everything braver, better men have said before and they'll line right the fuck up.

To give you an idea of what the President and his Gustapo did with the powerful words of their propaganda, look at the election numbers in Idaho. 88% Bush, 22% Kerry. Yet in New York state, the numbers are almost completely the opposite. 69% Kerry, 31% Bush. IN NEW YORK STATE! At GROUND FUCKING ZERO! The very people who woke up and saw the horror that sent those backwads idiot-fucks in Idaho scrambling for their tool shed to git the shotgyun saw that our invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with what happened to them! You would think that these people who heard the screams, probably were screaming themselves, could see, smell, choke from the smoke and dust in the air, would be the most paranoid of them all, would be the most afraid of all to let our Thief In Chief leave office! He's got those great, courageous leadership skills, doesn't he? He's making the world a safer place, isn't he? Wouldn't they be the ones that would know it best?

Quite the opposite. Turns out the people closest to ground zero (and this includes Washington DC, which also got hit on 9/11, and voted an astounding 88% for Kerry) think Bush should get his ass out of office, and it turns out no matter of election tampering could stop their voices from being heard. These people want him out, and they want him out bad.

A few of my Democract friends across the world have chosen to take the optimistic route to the incredible lie that was November 2nd, 2004. There's a bright side to this, they say. More people voted Democrat than ever before, and we ended up in the minority, but look how many people we woke up, think about how many people we can wake up before 2008. I cannot share their enthusiasm, though I admire it. It can't get worse, they say, and he can't get elected again.. Mark my words: Things can get worse. And they will get worse. The President shallowly says he will try to get the support of Kerry voters. Four years ago he said that he would unite, not divide, but the moment he got in office, his minions, like little worker bees, immediately did the only thing they can do well, as if they can't do anything else: feed the fat queen, feed the fat queen.

Osama Bin Laden is still alive. He just released a new tape a few weeks ago. Iran is three years away from having nuclear weapons. North Korea has had them for several years. Our army is spread more thin than ever before, and somehow this President has managed to have the first war in the history of America that didn't improve the economy. The world is not a safer place. The world is less safe than it was when we invaded Iraq. And now it is poorer, too. And filled with more and more growing distaste for America. And why? Because we say "Who cares what the world thinks? We're America." Because we don't know that everything we do effects the entire world around us, and when we ignore them, when we go out of our way to screw them, when we rush to the polls and vote in record-breaking numbers for a man they view as a maniac, their feelings only grow worse and worse.

You and I know this. The lunatic majority in this country doesn't know and would never care.

Pity the United States of America. Because there honestly is no place to run from her looming, growing, toppling shadow.
